5 Textbooks to Learn Italian

Today I’m sharing with you five handbooks I think could be helpful for all of you studying Italian. You are all different as students, so you want to find a book that fits your learning needs. What follows is a variety of studying tools, each one with different features, so keep reading and find the handbook that best fits you! One thing you will notice is that all books are in Italian and that is because learning will be more effective; these student’s books are meant for all students of all languages.

Nuovo Espresso

I had the chance to analyse this handbook when I took my Applied Didactics class at university. Its method is conversation-oriented, so every task and exercise aims at bringing students to conversation proficiency. Not only linguistic and cultural aspects are investigated, students will find grammar topics explained in the light of a grammatically correct conversation. In conclusion, if you don’t like traditional learning methods and you want to be able to speak from the beginning, I recommend you check out Nuovo Espresso! Grammatica Italiana per Stranieri

This handbook is oriented towards building students’ confidence with grammar. All the topics are analysed for the target audience, which is composed of foreign students, it means that grammar is not explained as it would be to Italian students. Also, the focus is on the most used and useful grammar structures.

Grammatica Attiva

This handbook covers proficiency levels from A1 to B2 and it’s focused towards teaching grammar in context. It contains many exercises and tasks aimed for students to use the correct structures in alla sorts of communicative events.

Al Lavoro!

This handbook is communication-oriented and it targets a specific audience: foreigners who want to approach Italian language for working purposes. If you have to work in Italy or with Italians, this book might be for you, as it gives you the tools to efficiently converse in the working world.

Conversation and grammar are combined in this handbook, full of exercises and insights on Italian language. It comes with extra content on the web.

These are my five suggestions for Italian handbooks you might find useful for your learning, whether you only prefer grammar, conversation, or you want them combined. When you learn a language, remember to take advantage of all tools and resources that you can find!
